American Sign Language is the third or fourth most popular language in the United States. ASL is a complex visual-spatial language used among Deaf people in North America
DeafWorks! proudly offers interactive non-credit American Sign Language classes. Furthermore, classifiers, which are handshapes that "paints" a story or an action, will be incorporated in each course. Additionally, students in each level will learn more about Deaf culture. To maximize this visually-based learning experience, there will be no voice used during class.

There are four levels: Beginners I, II, III and IV. Upon completion of each course, students will:

    1) utilize expressive skills in ASL.
    2) apply receptive skills in ASL.
    3) increase knowledge of Deaf culture.

Classes are held at 79 Howell Street, off of Monroe Avenue in Rochester. The location is accessible by bus and has free parking spaces. In-service training for employees and private tutoring are available upon request.

Our high quality instructors are culturally Deaf and native ASL users. They are members of the Rochester Deaf community.
